I entered the 2018 Monochrome awards last year for the first time ever with this image, Trevor Roots Musician. This is the only photo I submitted to this international competition and to be honest I didn’t think about it doing anything. To my delight my entry was given an honourable mention in the portrait category which I was thrilled to bits with after battling and convalescing from a serious illness for the last eighteen months, entering the awards was one of the ways to get me back into my photography.
The image was shot on a Canon 5D mk4 and lit using one Elinchrom Quadra light with a strip box complete with a honeycomb grid. A really simple lighting technique but it adds so much mood and drama to a photo, really pleased with the resulting photo. With ten months to go before I can enter this years Monochrome awards, this has inspired me to strive to do even better next time and I will be getting my creative juices working to come up with something even better next time.
